Below is a list of roadworks taking place in the Waikato district. Please phone 0800 492 452 to report any road issues which aren't included on this list.

Matangi

Description

Mercer

Description

Mercer Ferry Road, Mercer

Updated work programme below, approximately five weeks in duration:

Stage 1 - Stop/Go traffic management in place
Dates: Monday 9 February - Saturday 21 February 2026
Duration: Approximately two weeks, weather permitting
Works: Shoulder repairs and side drainage works 

Stage 2 - Full road closure between 7am - 7pm
During the full road closure period, controlled pilot-vehicle crossings may be used at times to allow priority and essential traffic to pass through the work site under traffic management supervision, where it is safe to do so.
Dates:
Monday 23 February - Saturday 14 March 2026
Duration: Approximately three weeks, weather permitting
Works: Pavement repairs and application of two reseal coats

Ngaaruawaahia

Description
Great South Road with be closed from River Road, through to Princess Street, including the bridge.

  • Pedestrians will still be able to access the bridge
  • Resident access will be maintained where possible 
  • Emergency services will have access at all times
  • Rubbish and recycling will continue as normal 
  • You may notice increased noise, vibration and construction activity overnight

Hauraki District Council has closed this route due to dangerous road conditions on the part of the road that they manage. The road edge has slipped and poses a significant risk due to the possibility of further slipping which could result in the actual road slipping as well.
